The World’s Oldest Dog, Maggie, Has Closed Her Eyes And Taken Her Last Nap

Maggie was an absolutely gorgeous Australian sheepdog that has recently passed away at an age that many people believe are breaking world records. Her heartbroken owner confirmed the death to local media outlets.

Dairy farmer, Brian McLaren, was devastated by the passing of his 30-year-old Kelpie. She had been by his side for many years. He says that she was fairly healthy overall up to the time that she passed.

“She was 30 years old, she was still going along nicely last week, she was walking from the dairy to the office and growling at the cats and all that sort of thing,” McLaren, who lives in Victoria, Australia, told The Weekly Times.

“She just went downhill in two days, and I said yesterday morning when I went home for lunch … ‘She hasn’t got long now.'”

McLaren said that Maggie had been curled up in her bed the evening before he went to bed, and she was in the exact same position come morning. His heart dropped to the floor, but he did find a bright side.

  1. Six and a half years ago my beautiful dear old dog Lady, a Kelpie-Blue Heeler cross passed away at the age of 18 years. Sadly she slipped and hurt her leg one day and the vet was not able to do anything for her apart from giving her some pain relief. I had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanise my beautiful girl Lady a couple of days later. I am grateful that at least my kids and I got to spend some quality time with her before this. Lady’s sweet, gentle son Bobo died just 5 weeks after her at the age of 17 years. He had to have a large benign cancerous growth removed from his abdomen. The operation went well but unfortunately he died the following day. I think that he had lost the will to live without his beautiful mother being there. He was so lost without her as she was with him every day of his life. These dogs were the most sweet, gentle, loving dogs and I will always love and miss them.
