Łukasz Muniowski and his wife, Natalia, were taking a bike ride through the countryside in Poland back in 2015. As they were riding, they spotted a dog perk up from a ditch.
“My wife said, ‘Oh, a dog,’” Muniowski told a fellow website. “And we stopped.”
Right as they paused to look at the dog, it scampered off and went into a drain. The noticed that as it tried walking, something wasn’t quite right. The little dog moved in a funny way.
“Her run … was very awkward,” Muniowski said. “Her back was in the air, the back legs were wobbly and didn’t touch the ground. It’s really strange to describe because I’ve never seen anything like it.”
It was evident that the little dog needed help and was also very scared. They knew they couldn’t just leave her there. They endearingly named her Bobby at that moment.
“One side of the place that she ran into was closed with a big stone,” Muniowski said. “I started to dig with my hands under it … while Natalia watched if the dog would leave on the other side. Bobby started to growl, but it wasn’t a scary growl. When I was finally able to move the stone and put my hand slowly in there … she smelled it and then put her paws on my hand.”
He scooped her up and immediately took her to the animal hospital. She was in terrible shape. Bobby was emaciated, dirty, and worst of all — it looked like both of her back legs were broken. One of her hind paws was hardly hanging on. It was heartbreaking.
